The story is sweet and the spice is SPICY.
This story was absolutely wonderful from beginning to end. The pacing at the start of the book does move quickly but it is done very well. This is a fast paced easy to read romance that will literally sweep you off your feet.
You start out by following Emmy who is a world class barrel racer who has suffered a tragic horse riding accident that has her in a mental block and unable to ride. She goes back to her family ranch and runs into her brothers best friend at the bar. These two grew up together but now with years of growth between them the dynamic has shifted from "my best friends annoying sister" to "beautifully smart woman I'd like to know better". However; Emmy is less than inclined to believe the playboy she grew up with has changed at all. Emmy starts to come around to the idea of Luke once she sees how much he has matured and as he becomes her support person for the healing she desperately needs if she ever plans to ride horses again.
I absolutely LOVED this story, I will warn that the spice in this book does have some "male domination" vibes so if that is not your thing this may not be the book for you. I personally found them to be done tastefully especially when countered with Luke's daytime demeanor of sweet and supportive. He also constantly does check ins to make sure Emmy approved of what was happening during the scenes.
The one thing I didn't enjoy is the writing style is a little blocky. There are a lot of short sentences and it made for a less smooth reading experience as my brain pauses every time there is a period. Other than that the story was great and I am very excited to read the second installment by this author.
