Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer

1.0

Not-so-fun fact: Stephanie Meyer’s membership with the church of Latter Day Saints has deeply influenced her books. Apparently, a fundamental belief with LDS is that Indigenous Americans are the descendants of Jewish people who’ve been “cursed” with dark skin. Then I noticed that all of the Indigenous characters in the book have Jewish names (Jacob, Sam, Ephesus, etc.). Although I couldn’t take this book seriously after learning this, the kicker for me is that the Quileute people never gave consent to be written about in this book (or franchise in general), nor have they seen any financial compensation for Meyer’s exploits. Big no from me.
