If I Stay by Gayle Forman
2.0
I've read some truly great short books (animal farm, the great Gatsby etc), this isn't one of them. I found Mia lacking any real depth and the story seemed to drag its heels on an overworked plot line. One that has been done so many times before and in much better ways with the likes of Charlie St.Cloud and Ghost.
My main problem with this book is it doesn't really bring anything new to the table and I don't feel the same connection with the main character. Truth be told, I don't find Mia that likeable. In fact, I find her pretty two dimensional, the 'I don't fit in' 'no one understands me' narrative wears thin fast.
If you're looking for a quick and easy read then this might be the book for you. However, I found it to be too basic and unoriginal to hold my attention.
