Shopaholic Ties the Knot
by Sophie Kinsella
Oh how I love this series!!!
Listen, the premise is that Becky is a shopaholic that can’t control herself and gets into a mess. But by the end of the first book she somehow sorts her debts and gets better. So you would wonder what the next books will be about if not her shopping craze. But I have to say Sophie Kinsella was able to keep the story so interesting and have Becky go through such fun adventures.
It’s so nice to see her preparing the wedding (even though I still have reservations with Luke, he is nice sometimes but other times he can be horrible) and shop a lot for it.
The New York setting is lovely (even though I think I prefer London) and I was happy to see that some heavier themes like Luke’s relationship with his mother were dealt with.
I enjoy these books so much because they are super fun and entertaining, but I think I love them because I am so similar to Becky.
For example, when she is shopping for wedding dresses:
[Shopping Assistant] “So we’re after something either simple or elaborate, with sleeves or strapless, possibly with beading and/or embroidery and either with a train or without.” [Becky] “Exactly! But you know, I’m quite flexible.”
If this isn’t me like all the time! I would be exactly like that when buying a wedding dress because I have acted exactly the same on multiple occasions.
The wedding decision was definitely long and at times I wanted to shake her so that she would make a decision, but I completely understood what she was feeling and, once again, I would probably act very similarly if that all happened to me.
I am really glad of how it all tied up, and found it so hilarious how she managed to I definitely got very emotional at the end and I can’t wait to continue this series.
