First thank you Chef Bella for letting me taste test With Kookies on Top - truly delicious
This Kookie was THIQUE!! But worth every page! It picks up right where Kookie Dough left off. We get to experience the start of their relationship and move and grow with them as they set rules, break those rules and set knew ones only to end up exactly where we all knew it was headed because IT DAMN WELL HAD BETTER! Bella Jay took her time baking this one and I ate it right on up!
I wouldn’t call this a slow burn because even when they tried not to cross that line, Yadah and Nelly were still coming in hot. They couldn’t stay away from each other and I couldn’t stop reading it.
The growth for both Nelly and Kayadah was beautiful to experience. Nelly had the most growth between the two but Kayadah’s healing journey is soooo good! I’m sad that their story is over but I have a feeling that Jay’s book will be coming eventually and we’ll get to see more of Kookie and her Kookie Monster, because the way Mariah and his frat brother did him was nasty work and there are some crumbles (you see what I did there) that points to him being up next.
This story has plenty of spice but not freaky spice (there’s a difference). Both of them were real delusional at times because they were definitely in a relationship before they claimed they were. And they were terrible at hiding it lol! However, I hated the way Kristmas initially reacted when she found out- yes she explained why she reacted that way but whew, I wanted to choke her. I loved the check ins because they were needed. After what Yadah went through previously I was happy they did those because I think Nelly needed those check-ins as much as she did. I also truly enjoyed the internal thoughts because it was realistic and relatable. The things Kayadah said internal mirrored what I thought. This book made me laugh, nod my head in agreement, think about the gems Gracie (the therapist) was dropping and even shed a few tears. I don’t often cry at books but there was a part that made me tear up.
Bottom line- Bella Jay did not miss with this one and it was worth evey page!
