I mean… this could genuinely be considered a classic in 30 years and be read in a classroom setting. So much commentary applicable to our world. White supremacy, classism, colonialism, misogyny, religious extremism and prejudice, and more are all explored in this book, but done in a way that’s very fresh. It captured many things with nuance. Our main character Sciona is almost completely unlikable, yet I love her for her flaws and her often misguided morality and outlook… she’s what I wish would happen to trump supporters but alas… can they truly change like she did and did she even change…? Thomil is exceptional and honestly the soul of the book while Carra is the heart of it. I’ll genuinely be thinking about this book for years to come and it may be my top year of 2025. I mean the dynamic between Thomil and Sciona is honest to god masterful writing I felt like I’d never read anything like their dynamic before but it felt completely familiar.
