The Private Lives of the Saints: Power, Passion and Politics in Anglo-Saxon England by Janina Ramírez

4.0

A fascinating interdisciplinary study of the saints of Anglo-Saxon England. Drawing on diverse and scant sources Janina Ramirez attempts to look past the formulaic hagiographies to the people beneath. Some of the minor saints covered, particularly in the late Anglo-Saxon period could have benefited from more attention but overall a really great book.
