I loved this book so much. I did the audiobook version, which won an award that was much deserved. Like the other Kristin Hannah story I read, it was a touch slow in the beginning. But once it picked up, I couldn't stop listening. This story revolves around a woman who joined the army during the Vietnam war. It goes with her from the war, and then everything that happened once she returns. I didn't think historical fiction was something I was interested in, but Kristin Hannah has proven me wrong twice now.
Graphic: Addiction, Mental illness, Panic attacks/disorders, Suicide attempt, War
Moderate: Alcoholism, Drug abuse, Miscarriage, Pregnancy
Minor: Cancer, Racism, Police brutality
The book takes place in and during Vietnam war. It has mentions of various parts of the civil rights movement
