Leia: Princess of Alderaan by Claudia Gray
5.0
Edit 5/4/21: Happy May the 4th!! Highly recommend this novel for any Star Wars fan!

Claudia Gray might be my favorite Star Wars author. I loved this little look into Princess Leia's history.
I loved learning the history of Princess Leia and Alderaan. Especially since there isn't much said about it in the movies... I liked that Leia had to earn her crown as princess and that she really seems set on helping the entire universe rather than just her planet. I liked that she was so innocent and really kinda learned how awful the world is through her earnest experiences. That carries over into the films, I think.
I liked learning about Bail and Breha too. We really never got to know them well and this was an interesting look into the leadership of the rebellion. All of Leia's relationships were well developed and interesting and it really gave an insight to who Leia is and how she grew up.
The only part I wasn't a fan of was a huge spoiler so DO NOT READ unless you want to be majorly spoiled:
Overall, this was a great novel and I'm glad it's canon! I'm also reading the manga and I'm so excited to see how this will look in the future novels!

Spoiler
I didn't like that Kier was going to betray them. His reasoning was weak; I'd completely expect the Empire to destroy Alderaan rather than reform it. I think he would have brought the destruction of his planet if he had succeeded in betraying them. I think his character was a scapegoat and his only purpose is to be Leia's first love. It was frustrating and the weakest part of the novel.Overall, this was a great novel and I'm glad it's canon!
