I've only ever read Holes by Louis Sachar, and I absolutely loved it, so I was intrigued to read something else by the author. I was a bit disappointed and found this book to be just okay.

One of the main characters in this story is a big bully (supposedly misunderstood) who is feared by his classmates and his teachers for his menacing behavior. A new counselor comes to the school and this boy is encouraged to see her and talk to her, as are some of the other students in the class.

It is interesting to read a book from the point of view of the 'bully' character - it lends an interesting perspective to his experiences and how he interprets the world around him. But, he is genuinely quite an abrasive character, which is why I think I didn't really grow to like him while I was reading this story. It was an interesting premise and an easy enough read, but it felt like it was missing some of the magic that Holes had.
