Black Butler, Vol. 1 by Yana Toboso

4.0

I had a pretty good idea that I was going to enjoy this because I really enjoy the anime. I've been in a reading slump for a few weeks, so I just wanted to read something quick that I knew that I would enjoy, and I figured the safest bet was Black Butler.

Just like I assumed, I did really enjoy this and I plan on continuing with the manga series as well as eventually finishing the anime. It was entertaining, kind of lighthearted at certain parts and it didn't take itself too seriously, but also wasn't overly cheesy. I actually think this might be a decent introduction to manga because the art is good, the story is intriguing, and the panels are easy to follow without having to actually have experience reading manga. I have read manga where I have difficulty following the story because the art is too hectic or the panels are really odd (Ouran High School Host Club, anyone?) and this was nothing like that and was honestly just a joy to read.
