Built to Last
by Erin Hahn
"I fell hard for the old Shelby, but this new version will absolutely destroy me."
Summary
Shelby and Cameron were once stars of a teen sitcom but have parted ways and only spoken once in ten years, despite their mutual crushes. That one time was when their costar and Shelby's boyfriend, Lyle, dumped her and Cameron flew to her at her lowest. After a lifetime apart, Shelby does renovations and Cameron is a documentary cameraman. Today, they find Lyle pitching them a pilot episode of a home makeover. Will they all be able to work together again without all the feelings from the past overcoming the present?
Why did I pick up this book?
Someone reached out to me on Instagram on behalf of the author, and suggested I would like this book based on other books I've read. I impulsively bought it from my local bookstore on pub day!
What did I enjoy about it?
There are few tropes I hate more than "miscommunication" - an overheard comment out of context, words left unsaid leading to conflict, etc. This was NOT the case here - these characters were so honest and forthcoming with each other, it was refreshing and I loved it. I liked how there was a popular song that set the scene for each chapter. These characters all made my heart so warm and fuzzy. Last, I liked that they really had to work through their pain together, not just a quick "oh okay, my bad" and they moved on. Overall excellent!
What did I not enjoy about it?
Really not much! We as readers were reminded maybe a few too many times that they were only signed on for one episode, but we all know I’m frequently annoyed when authors harp on one point too much. In short, I loved it and will definitely be reading Hahn again. Maybe in a sequel to this book…?? Lorelia-Drake-Craig triangle?
