Asimov's Annotated Paradise Lost
by John Milton, Isaac Asimov
Surprisingly, NOT for the annotations. I found those to be mostly boring and off-point. I don't need the Bible verses quoted to me. I did like the annotations that were historical in nature and explained how certain ideas ended up in the Bible, though.
The poem itself was pretty impressive. I can't imagine an undertaking such as that. I appreciated the insight into the religious viewpoint and culture of that time. It gave me some good discussions of what his true views on women were, and how could he make Satan so sympathetic without actually feeling the same way himself? I suppose, as sinners (in his view), we all share some of Satan's motivations and sadness.
I'm proud of myself for reading the whole thing!
