Vicious by Sara Shepard

Well, it's finally done. The 16th book in a series that, in all honesty, should have ended on the 8th volume. After the 8th book, every plot "twist" was just a repeat of the book that came before. It was, finally, a good tie-up of a series that had become a money-grab and nothing else. The Liars were finally vindicated and Ali got fat and finally ended up in jail and the girls all lived happily ever after, seemingly unscarred by an adolescence of stalking and bullying and physical attacks and PTSD.
Hanna got married to Mike and is living happily ever after as a fashion designer in New York.
Aria is with Noel and is living happily ever after as an artist in New York.
Spencer is with Wren and is living happily ever after on the path to being a lawyer in Philadelphia.
Emily is a surfer and is living happily ever after in California.
And Ali, once again, got fat and was tossed in the psych ward and is living happily ever after, planning her revenge on the Liars.
So nothing changed. There was no finality other than the series which started as a vapid attempt at YA suspense ended with two faked deaths and no real knowledge or accurate portrayal of the legal system. But it's done, out of my system, I know all the plot "twists" that may or may not find their way into the infinitely better television show. It's like a Band-Aid I've been tugging at for years but have been too lazy to rip off because there are no redeeming characters or plot lines or themes or styles.
It's just over, and it's a weight gone from my reading list.
On to better things.
