Kristen Ciccarelli's Heartless Hunter/Crimson Moth is the first book in The Crimson Moth duology. It's a fantastic tale of outlawed magic, forbidden love, and rebellion. Set in a world where witches once ruled but are now hunted by the Blood Guard, we follow a rebellious witch, Rune, and a stony Blood Guard soldier, Gideon, in a tantalizing game of cat and mouse.
Rune is a vapid socialite by day and a witch-saving vigilante who goes by the Crimson Moth by night. After failing to rescue a witch of importance, she decides to get close to Gideon Sharpe, a Blood Guard who hates witches more than anything. Gideon begins to suspect Rune and they form a fake courtship that brings them closer.
This is a fast-paced, easy read. Some of the plot points and big reveals are a bit predictable, but I still found the story enjoyable and couldn't stop turning the page!
This is an excellent read for fans of romantasy, forbidden love, with hints of political intrigue.
