Listen. This is not a bad book. This is a classic case of a book not finding the right audience. This book was not for me. It read YA which is not my favourite and I struggled with connecting with the characters, the storyline, and the writing style. There were some unlikable characters and I felt like there wasn’t really a lot of character development or chances to really get to know characters other than the MC. I found the plot harder to follow with all of the interruptions to explain the magic or the history or the context. The “info dumping” was really distracting and took away from the action or conversations taking place. 
I don’t think this is a bad book but I am not the right reader for it.
