Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari

4.0

I felt Dr. Harari hit his stride beautifully in the first two parts of his book. The first part was especially well-written and illuminating. Much of the information about co-existent human species has been unknown until very recent history, and Dr. Harari made it accessible and fascinating for laypeople. The second part was great, as well; I especially loved the exposition of objective, subjective, and intersubjective realities.

In the third and final parts, I feel that Harari lost his magical simplicity, humility, and conciseness. He remained philosophically engaging, but not as incisive or clear. Overall, I definitely recommend the book, but you might get the most impactful parts from the graphic novel version, which covers much of parts 1 and 2 in volume 1.
