A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

5.0

A Discovery of Witches was quite the cozy read full of magic and mystery.

My fav characters:
•Ysabeau (wish we saw even more of her)
•Aunt Sarah

What I loved:
•Extremely likable characters
•Lots of little surprises with an equal amount of truly surprised and predicted
•eloquent prose
•Plot is fresh and lovely
•settings are beautiful

Disliked:
•the fact that Matthew is so possessive (way overdone in fantasy) and compared to an alpha wolf (it’s disputable if wolves even have alphas)
•the prose, while eloquent, leans toward purple prose at times
•Too much info dumping

Overall, I gave this book 5 stars because I simply loved the story so much that I found my dislikes inconsequential.
