Marzahn, Mon Amour
by Katja Oskamp
A thoroughly charming little book, each short chapter introduces the reader to another client of the book's narrator, a chiropodist in the Marzahn District of Berlin. These are people, many of them older and marginalised by society, but, as they sit with their feet being bathed, their stories and glimpses of their ordinary and also extraordinary lives are revealed. It finds beauty in the mundane and is a reminder that none of us really know what someone else has been or is going through.
