There There by Tommy Orange

4.0

Woah, what a novel. On the whole this was really excellent, with a couple things that we talked about in book club: I would’ve liked a few fewer characters (adding multiple new POVs in the second half of the book muddied the waters for me) and it was just hard (though important!) for me to read about a mass shooting in 2019. I still feel like I’m reeling from the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting and the horrifying number of school shootings, so having a mass shooting be the climax of this book was just a little tough.

On the whole, though, Tommy Orange is a master of language and an adept storyteller. I look forward to reading whatever he writes next.
