Kick: The True Story of Kick Kennedy, JFK's Forgotten Sister, and the Heir to Chatsworth by Paula Byrne

5.0

A fascinating study of an incredibly interesting, romantic, and complex young woman. The major themes of love and religion shine through, and they go a long way to explaining why Kick was the way she was. Her religious upbringing led to a rebellious streak, but a streak that she used for good. The way Byrne talks with such tenderness about Kick's relationship with Billy Hartington makes you fall for them both completely, and even though I knew they wouldn't have a happy ending, I found myself hoping for it all the same.

This is a wonderful biography of a supremely interesting subject - I only wish I could go back and tell Billy Hartington to wear a normal bloody Army uniform.
