In 2024, while it is refreshing to have a queer narrative set in New York that doesn’t end with AIDS, there is nothing in this narrative that hasn’t already been told in television, film, and other media. Perhaps upon first receipt of this book, it was telling a narrative different from others, but there are only so many times I can tolerate hearing about white gays in New York before the turn of the century. As a result, it leaves this novel feeling trapped and dated.
