I really enjoyed M.L. Rio’s “If We Were Villains,” so her novella “Graveyard Shift” seemed like a no-brainer. It has a lot of the same components as “Villains” did - multiple character POVs, dark and brooding, a sense of mystery that borders on horror. But “Graveyard Shift” felt largely incomplete. The action felt rushed and seemed to be missing an entire third act, which left me feeling frustrated and underwhelmed.
