In the Vanishers' Palace by Aliette de Bodard

5.0

I want to be clear: in my heart, the rating is actually 3 stars. I did like it! but while so many novels could have stood to be a little shorter, this is a novella that I think could really stand to be longer. I don't need every question about the world and its history answered - I actually like how much lore is just presented as is and left for the audience to figure out; we don't need, like Vanisher family trees when the pain they caused is what's important and is already evident - but the relationships and emotional development between the current cast could do with a lot more time to simmer, especially since the characters are so delightful!

however, I'm a man of my word. I said five stars for dragon sex, so five stars for dragon sex it is.
