Rainbow Valley by L.M. Montgomery
3.0

i think this book was a nice way to get to know anne and gilbert's children. their characters and namesakes were definitely a nice way to homage to the previous books about anne's life. there's been mixed reviews on this book, but this was a nice way to conclude NOT anne's story particularly, but the overarching series as a whole because it moves to the next generation of little annes and gilberts. though, i really wish the children mentioned the late joyce because it would've showed that she lived on and was talked about to be remembered by anne and gilbert.

the story focuses more on the merediths and uses ingleside and the blythe children as secondary characters (which albeit, would have made more sense if it was the other way around), i feel as though we still get to see enough of them to see how they're holding up. i think that perhaps the main thing that does not throw me off this book as much as others have been, is that i was able to see how anne and gilbert were living through the characters of their children. the fundamental themes of what made Anne of Green Gables like kindred spirits, lighthearted mischief, curiosity for life and adventure—were all very evident through the ingleside and manse children. though this book doesn't focus on the grown anne anymore, the core of her imagination remained as this book was written making it familiar to the reader.

i am currently a few pages into rilla of ingleside, and am up in the air on reading anne of ingleside and windy poplars at the moment. BUT have come to the conclusion that you could, in all honesty, stop at the house of dreams or even this book, rainbow valley, to conclude the series. that being said, i probably will move on and maybe come back to reading the latter 3 books later on in life... (OR just re-read the first 4 once again, idk!)
