The Music Shop by Rachel Joyce

4.0

The lovable misfits of this sweet and heartwarming novel are emotionally a bit inept and a tad naive. An accidental encounter in a music store situated in a deteriorating neighborhood primed for gentrification offers a chance for an unexpected friendship and possibly a romance.

Likeable, quirky characters abound in the small shops surrounding the 1980s music store that only sells vinyl records, refusing to modernize and sell CDs. Frank, the owner, has a gift for identifying the perfect music that a person needs to hear and pulls from all music genres to satisfy the ear and the heart. Both Frank and his elusive German lady friend, Ilsa, must reach back into their own pasts through music to find emotional peace.

Providing a solid nod to the power of music to transform, this is mainstream fiction with a touch of English romance.
