Draw Down the Moon
by P.C. Cast, Kristin Cast
Another great work by the Casts.
I was eager to read this one to see if it was suitable to share with my 12-year-old niece, as she enjoys reading fantasy but often finds that reading about characters her age are too childish but most ya is out of her range for romance. So I was pleased to find that, while 18, the characters' romances and dialogue were kept enough to be classified solidly in the YA spectrum and not border over into New Adult, as many current YA books are want to do.
Having a magical system that combines both the moon and astrological symbols was interesting and intriguing, and I enjoyed the dark academia that didn't take a dip into twisted. It was a great balance of thrill, spooky, romance, and magic to share between adults and teens. I really enjoyed that the romance wasn't wrought with a lot of the pressure and immaturity that sometimes presents with male love interests, and there was some innocent-puppy love with enough emotional maturity to make healthy decisions.
If you're looking for a YA series that you can share with your up and coming teens, Draw Down the Moon is definitely the one for you.
