This is tough to review because I oscillated wildly between loving Dan and hating him. He could be hugely unlikeable—smug and yet also with such low self-esteem—but it also felt very real and true to life, however distasteful his thoughts and attitudes were sometimes. There were enough sweet moments to keep me going at least.
