I’m not a D&D person, but this was still utterly charming. The way the author interspersed chapters of real life with chapters of the lushly built fantasy world of the game, and the way feelings and actions in the game carried back to real life (and vice versa) was wonderful. It made me wish I had the imagination and patience to try to play, but instead I’ll just hope she writes more like this so that I can live vicariously.
