Willa of Dark Hollow by Robert Beatty

4.0

I have loved everything that Robert Beatty has written.

Being from the Smoky Mountains, Willa's story has been close to my heart. I loved the first one and I think I liked the setting of this one more. And the idea that the people behind the Great Smoky Mountains National Park knew Faeran creatures!

Since it's historical fiction fantasy, I can't expect it to be 100% factual, but I was a little upset with the main plot twist. It felt a little too convenient and unbelievable. However, I love that character and so it was kind of okay.

The ending is what solidified my thoughts. It was rushed and while it definitely has an open end with a few characters, it shuts off one character's story entirely. Or so I think. But it would feel a little strange if there's another book with that character in it.

Overall great story, love the landmarks like Clingman's Dome, Asheville, Cades Cove, mentioning Knoxville (where I'm from!). Definitely makes the story more personal for me!
