This book was really strange and, while it was wild, it was nowhere near as gory etc. as I thought it would be based on other people’s comments and reviews! The format was pretty cool, although I wish the characters weren’t so formal when they were messaging.
I don’t know if I’d recommend this book to anyone based on the subject matter alone, but I do feel deeply, deeply bad for Agnes and wish she could have gotten the help (financially, mentally…) that she needed.
There’s no doubt about the fact that this is a horror about manipulation and decaying mental health; it’s impossible for anyone to perceive it as romantic and I do definitely appreciate that, considering abuse stories are often interpreted as romantic by the media.
