Hidden Girl: The True Story of a Modern-Day Child Slave by Shyima Hall

3.0

I thought Shyima's story was both heart wrenching and a story of triumph. The number of people being trafficked is shocking in this day and age. I admire her strength and conviction to not only educate people but her desire to erradicate slavery too. However the book was repetitive and too much hostility bled into the text by the end. I found myself instead of sympathizing with her tragic story wondering why she was still talking about foster parents along her journey with so much negativity. I thought by the end she sounded "entitled" too. No family is perfect. Just stating that and saying she moved on to the next home would have sufficed.
