Tamed by Emma Chase

3.0

A novel that runs in parallel, time-wise, to Chase's TANGLED, relating the falling-in-love of the two besties of TANGLED's protagonists: Drew's friend Matthew, a coworker and fellow player, and Kate's best friend Delores (Dee Dee), a chemical engineer who dresses like a sex bomb. She and Matthew hook up for one night of fantastic sex, then Matthew is surprised when Dee doesn't want to repeat the experience. But Matthew persists, Dee is attracted, and the two become involved. This time, though, it's the female, not the male, who has commitment issues.

I was disappointed because Dee came across as far less a strong character than I had expected from her portrayal in TANGLED. Dee is as much of a player, sex-wise, as the guys, but it's not because she likes uncomplicated sex for its own sake; it's because her first boyfriend, and all her subsequent boyfriends, have screwed her over. Thus, though the story is told from Matthew's POV, the character arc is Dee's—she has to learn to overcome her fears of commitment in order to make things work with the worthy Matthew (who, though a player, is open to slightly longer term relationships than either Dee or Drew are).
