Finding Chika: A Little Girl, an Earthquake, and the Making of a Family by Mitch Albom
5.0
A beautiful heartwarming memoir full of sorrow, laughter and love. Chika is a girl from Haiti who through sad circumstances comes to live in an orphanage that Mitch and his wife Janice run. She quickly makes quite an impression and becomes somewhat of a favorite. After a few years though it becomes apparent that something is unfortunately wrong with her. Mitch and Janice take Chika under their wing and welcome her into their home in the US in search for a cure.
During what is one of most trying time in their lives suddenly becomes the most wonderful as they come to realize that not only does Chika need them but they so desperately need her. She completes them and becomes the daughter they never had. And although you know the ending you still find yourself wondering how it’ll end.
Over the many year of reading Mitch Albom’s books, I’ve come to know a certain expectation and Finding Chika certainly delivers. This book will not only make you cry but it’ll also make you laugh, make you wonder and make you appreciate the little things in life. Things that only a child knows how to make you Look and see.
