It felt like the author was going through horticulture school while writing this book on the side. The main character is a landscaper, but other than that, I saw no reason that there was so much depth of description of all of the foliage plus nearly poetic descriptions of things having to do with nature. There is an entire chapter about a guy suspensefully hiding in a field, and it could’ve been summarized in a paragraph or two, but it took several pages mostly because of the way that the blades of grass were described as they blew in the wind under the silvery moon…
