Tortured Dreams by Hadena James

4.0

I first read this book in middle school, when I found it free through BookBub. The writing is far from sophisticated, but it pulled me in then and it pulled me in now. Even though I hadn't reread it until now almost a decade later, I never forgot about the book about a sociopath who was best friends with a psychopath and who solved a grisly murder. Maybe the medieval torture devices helped in that. It's a fun book! The characters are fun, the tropes are fun, and the plot twists are fun. As someone who now works in a museum though, I did find the idea that the Field would have exactly one curator funny though. It's just a minor detail that had no reason to be expanded upon for accuracy, but I chuckled at the thought nonetheless.
