Carry On
by Rainbow Rowell
If you're in for a queer Harry Potter fanfic that is partly meta, this book is for you. Simon is the chosen one and has thus far managed to escape the Humdrum again and again. Now he's in his last year at school and his archenemy Baz, son of one of the old families trying to reclaim their lost power after the Mage has started his 'rule', is missing, making Simon increasingly nervous. What are the old families plotting? When will the Humdrum attack next? Will he be able to save the world again with the help of his girlfriend Agatha and his friend Penelope?
Quite funny, language is okay, I liked the Harry Potter satire aspects, but it was mainly a rip off and I had read enough fan fiction to know where this is going. The plot twist in the end was also very Le Guin, if you know what I mean.
But overall? Enjoyable! Extra points for becoming so wonderfully queer!
