The writing style is beautiful. The story kept me intrigued but I am not sure how much of it was actual interest versus wanting to see how much WORSE it could get! It did get banned for a reason, after all. There was not one main character that I liked, very shallow characterizations for most. The father was the only character I felt any sympathy for. I know Emma is unhappy ALL of the time but there wasn't any real reason for it at first.
