The Great Witch of Brittany by Louisa Morgan

The prequel to “A Secret History of Witches.” Apparently I read that one before joining this platform, so I had it marked as “read” but no review or notes to compare. I do remember taking a break halfway through because I couldn’t stay engaged through the slow-moving story, interesting as it was.
I’m more familiar with this author’s slow, atmospheric style now. Not a page-turner, but a poignant story about family, relationships, strong female characters, with some magic sprinkled in. I cared about Ursule and her efforts to keep her family safe throughout the course of her long life… actually, I found myself all teared up toward the end.
My favorite LM book so far.
