Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism by Amanda Montell

3.0

I was so excited to dive into this book, and while I did enjoy it, I feel like it lost its plot line at times. The entire idea of this book is to dive into the language, "cultish", in which cult and cult like groups use to entrap their members. I was the most captivated when it came to the chapters speaking on certified cults like Jonestown and Heaven's Gate. I found myself not wanting to put it down when it went into the specifics of these cults; however, I lost interest when it came to modern day "cults" like fitness groups and makeup brands. While the majority of the book was interesting and Montell did provide some fascinating ideas, I found it to be a little bit repetitive.
