Crystal Crowned by Elise Kova

3.0

3.5 for this book in particular, but I would give the entire series a 4, maybe 4.5 stars.
The previous book seemed all filler to me. It was still a nice read, but I felt like there were scenarios that occurred that really weren't relevant to the series. It's like, they happened, and then was hardly ever brought up again.

This book was a nice closure to the series. However, to me, there was still a lot of filler aspect here, and I definitely could have done with more detail on the war/fighting itself (I'm a sucker for gruesome take-downs with swords and arrows and shit).

Also, without spoilers, there was what appeared to be a significant incident in one of the earlier books concerning a certain firebearer and fortune telling. While Kova did actually integrate it into further books, there were no reminders or any significant "Oh!" moment for me as, again, the scenario happened but then seemed to be forgotten or never brought up again until the last book. It was a cool little twist at the end where I finally had that "Oh!" moment, but it would have been cooler if it had been integrated into the story more.

Overall, I really enjoyed this series. It was a fun read with adventure, love, friendship, magic, and badass women. I plan to look into the spin-off series and continue the story!
