This book has been sitting in my Overdrive “Wish List” for months, maybe even years. With horse on the covers, I was definitely interested in the series, but wasn’t ready to jump in just yet. I’m glad that I decided to check out Riders by Veronica Rossi and begin this adventure with Gideon and the rest of the four horsemen of the apocalypse.
While I usually avoid books with religious undertones, I was glad that other than being about the horsemen, and of course demons, there wasn’t any preaching in the book. Gideon, after dying, and coming back to life notices that he’s not quite the same person he used to be. With a strange new bracelet on his wrist, Gideon notices that he’s maybe healed a bit faster than anticipated.
Without giving too much of the story away, Gideon meet Darryn, who explains that he was one of the horsemen, War to be exact. Gideon and Darryn then travel around the world to find the other three. Together, they must learn to trust one another, and work together to save the world as we know it.
The story is very interesting, and starts that way from the very beginning. I think the aspect of telling the story from Gideon’s point of view once he’s been captured is a unique perspective. I didn’t understand at first where things were going, but was pleasantly surprised once I realized what was actually going on.
In closing, if you’ve been on the fence about this series, I know it’s not the newest, jump in with both feet. It’s a very interesting story with some very neat characters along the way.
