Quicksilver by Callie Hart
2.0

“easy to judge . . . from a position of privilege."

I would have given this a 3-star rating because of the whole quicksilver concept, the magic system, and how they were bound by the rules of war, which made it somehow interesting for me to not dnf this, but the end of the book made me rate it 2 stars instead. I just really couldn’t fathom why authors had to dump all the powers, or advantages, on one character. Like, yes, I get it; she’s the main character, and she has all the privilege to get all of those, but come on, at least leave some thrill to keep us intrigued for the next book.

The plot was poorly executed throughout the story, and oftentimes the timing for dropping the information was off, which appeared like the characters were dumping information just to keep the chapter going. If it were not for the quicksilver concept, I would have already DNFed this book. I didn’t quite enjoy Callie Hart’s writing style in this because some of the dialogues and narration felt awkward to read, at least for me.

There’s nothing much I liked about the MMC, with a name like his, yeah. I couldn’t take him seriously the entire time I was reading because of his name. Maybe that’s why I couldn’t picture him as a drop-dead gorgeous man. (Please, authors, take as much time as you need for choosing your main characters’ names and not just randomly combine a name like King and Fisher.). I liked Saeris’ character in the beginning of the story. I felt a pang of sadness reading the chapters about the injustice and violence she had witnessed and experienced in Madra’s reign; that’s why I was able to connect with her character immediately.

Enemies to lovers? It didn't feel like they were. Top tier banter and tension? There were no such things.

I would definitely not recommend and reread this.
