The Genesis of Misery by Neon Yang
3.0

I would not recommend the audio version of this book. I'm not typically super picky about readers (I appreciate really good ones, but can usually get used to nearly any voice), but this text/reader combination served to drain the charm and suspense that probably would have made the story much more enjoyable to me. As it was, the characters fell flat and largely undifferentiated, and ... well, the book's narrator is very obviously unreliable, but I would have had more patience for their fallibilities (and might have been more drawn in to their perspective) if not for said flatness.

It's a shame that I'm unlikely to find the time/space to read this on paper anytime soon. But the ending did pique my interest for the presumptive sequel, so there's that.
