The main character is one of the best I’ve read for a fantasy novel. Her inner monologue is entertaining and she’s easy to love.
It’s the love interests that really suck and are basically threatening to assault her for most of the novel.
*POTENTIA SPOILERS* Up until the end it feels like the story actually wants them to get together before setting up a revenge plot for the next novel that saves this book from being a 2 or 3 rather than 4. Truly, an ending that promises retribution re-contextualizes a lot of this novel that would feel gross rather than properly angering.

Graphic: Adult/minor relationship, Emotional abuse, Misogyny, Physical abuse, Self harm, Sexual assault, Suicidal thoughts, Toxic relationship, Kidnapping, Sexual harassment, Classism
This book really lives or dies by whether or not you can accept that the “love interests” may not get their punishment until the next book.
