The Undocumented Americans by Karla Cornejo Villavicencio

challenging reflective medium-paced

4.0

an important exploration of undocumented immigrant stories, mostly around new york city. the stories are both personal for her author and the stories of other people that she encounters and i think these types of narratives that show glimpses into people’s lives is really important. this was the first time i learned that many of the people who helped to look for survivals in the 9/11 rubble were undocumented immigrants and that they subsequently had a hard time getting documentation in place to receive benefits.

pairs well with everyone who is gone was here and dar america: notes of an undocumented american.
