I really enjoyed this graphic novel. I am a cis reader but it felt like a privilege to be able to explore the author's world and thoughts and experiences growing up and discovering all the intricacies of gender identity and trying to find one's place in the world. The honesty and imagery was beautiful.
There are perhaps some more graphic scenes, illustrations with a touch of nudity and GASP illustrations of blood from menstruation. But COME ON. Ridiculous what gets banned now. I feel like everyone, especially young adults and teens, should take a look at this one. There's so much here that I'm guessing so many adults wish they had when they were younger.
The ending felt abrupt and took me by surprise, but I ended up really appreciating it. It was beautiful, a little bittersweet, and it left me knowing that there are no complete answers. Life goes on and we're still here to hopefully keep living and exploring what it means to exist fully and be happy. It was beautiful.
I also liked the bonus shout out to Oh Joy Sex Toy by Erika Moen (long time fan of hers) Made me smile!
