Little Ghosts by Gregg Dunnett

4.0

Little Ghosts was a hard one to read and probably why it took me a little longer to finish. Aside from the typos and a few parts of the book that were slow it was a really good book. I also don’t understand why they author always attached the last name anytime the parents were named especially Jon Martin…kinda annoyed me.

Layla Martin was a 10 year old girl who was found brutally murdered, even though in the autopsy they couldn’t figure out how exactly she had died. Her brother Gale was 8yo when she died and he never really got over her death. Her parents Rachel and Jon Martin’s marriage was really struggling after her death and fought a lot. Layla has been appearing to her brother since her death. It wasn’t until the anniversary of her death when she was 10y 5mo when she that she spoke her first words to her brother. After that she finally realized she needed to solve her murder with her help of her brother Gale. She knows who killer her.

DI Carter has been on her case since they found her body 2 years ago and has not been able to solve her murder. Until one day he is shows a picture of his house and is accused of her murder and he is trying to prove his innocence. Ellen Cross is a single mom to boy named Joe and is just a beat cop when she gets pulled into an interview and ends up becoming part of the case. Ellen is my favorite character she is a good cop and very smart. She wants to become a detective but is letting fear hold her back.

Part II is when the action started and I couldn’t put the book down. I thought by learning who the killer was early on would ruin the book but it did the opposite it kept me glued bc I wanted to see what happened. I had to know if or how he got caught. You start to see what kind of person he is bc of his audacity and smugness getting the better of him thinking he’s gotten away with her murder. The story is heartbreaking but I feel like Gregg Dunnett did a great job with his storytelling.

Thank you NetGalley for letting me read this ARC for my honest review. I just reviewed Little Ghosts by Gregg Dunnett. #LittleGhosts #NetGalley
