The tl;dr is Temeraire, but native.
This story has really fantastic world building. I especially appreciated the way the 'mean headmistress' was actually a fully developed character, with a history of struggling in the patriarchal Nordic society. I was wondering if requiring a native girl to attend a boarding school was historical commentary, or simply a magical school trope.
Also, the main character is bi. Completely on the page normalized with her people bi. But don't get excited, there is zero spice in the book.
