If I Was Your Girl
by Meredith Russo
I'm kind of including a spoiler about the very end of the book so yeah.
Let me start by saying, I read this book in less than 12 hours, staying up until gone 3am as I was SO hooked! I mean the storyline was great, the characters were perfect, it was interesting, emotional, gripping - everything perfect about a book!
There was however one thing about this book that annoyed the hell out of me, even though it was more than likely done for a reason. As a reader, we ended not knowing...
Throughout the book, I became so emotionally attached to Grant and Amanda both as individuals and also as a couple. So for Grant in the end to turn his nose up at what Amanda was, broke my heart just a little bit. They were one of my favourite fictional couples and I personally did not see him or his family reacting like that!
When they finally met up again at the end of the book, they had a conversation in which Grant told Amanda he didn't know if they could ever work, he didn't know what they were together and he wished she had always been a girl. Then in one of the last few lines, Amanda said "Maybe this would be the last ever conversation I had with grant. Maybe not.". I turned the page to see what he responded and the book had finished? What?! Are you kidding me?
All I'm saying is if you're a person like me who likes to actually know what happens in the end then take that into consideration when reading this book.
That's the only reason I simply had to give this book a 4* as I would have initially given it a 5*. I will say, I loved this book a lot and it has really resonated with me.
